Mostar & Medjugorje The Old Bridge

There is so much to do when it comes to finding the right tour to suit your craving to explore. Booking a trip through Splitlicious ~ was easy and reasonable. You can book online or walk into their office.

The Hogz prefer a face to face because you never know who may fall totally in love with your personality to offer you a discount. After a short talk in their office, the Hogz chose Mostar & Medjugorie.

Mostar. When you hear that, you think of some kind of catchy Hollywood title. That isn't the case. Yes fellow followers, here comes a history lesson. Mostar, an old town in Herzegovina (you had better not say Bosnia to the locals) After a 3 hour drive from Split Croatia, you arrive . Stari Most (which means old bridge) is a 16th century Ottaman bridge in the city of Mostar that towers over river Nereta and boldly connects two parts of the city. Built by Mimar Hayruddin. The Old Bridge stood for 427 years until it was destroyed in November of 1993 by Croatian military during the Croat-Boniak War. Rebuilt in 2004 it is one of the country's most recognizable landmarks.

There is a diving club in Mostar where men jump from the middle of the bridge after paying a fee and becoming a lifetime member. It is said that if you haven't jumped from the bridge no matter how old you are, you are not a REAL man. The tour guide told us that his girlfriend wanted him to jump to prove to her father that he could be a man and ask for her hand in marriage. He simple replied with he was all for women's rights and he would do it if she went first. Needless to say, they haven't married yet.

There are many small shops and great food to try along the ancient market strip. Restaurant hostesses dressed in festive Ottoman attire gathering tourists into their place to feast. This is definitely a beautiful town. Just be sure to bring cash because 99 percent of the businesses are cash only.
